Men Win, Women Fall To St. Vincent

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's men's swimming team defeated St. Vincent, 145-100, while the Falcon women fell to the Bearcats, 137.5-111.5, Saturday afternoon at the Feaster Center Pool.

Nurettin Erhan was apart of four wins on the afternoon, including individual victories and new pool records in the 200 butterfly (1:53.19) and 100 butterfly (49.68). Emir Atilgan picked up three individiual wins in the 50 free (22.95), 200 free (1:46.03) and 500 free (4:59.35). Pasko Komadina notched victories in the 1,000 free (10:12.03) and 200 IM (1:56.94).

Josh Barton was victorious in the 100 backstroke (59.03), as was Kasozi Wilson in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.07) and David Dent in the 100 free (47.86).

The 200 medley relay team of Komadina, Wilson, Erhan and Dent set a new team and pool record with a time of 1:36.17. The 200 free relay of Erhan, Atilgan, Atanas Madolev and Dent won with a time of 1:27.88.

Kathryn Saurborn led the Falcon women with three individual victories on the afternoon. She set a new pool record in the 50 free with a time of 23.99 while also winning the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.76 and the 200 free with a time of 1:59.60.

Senior Cassie Annan swept both breaststroke events winning the 100 in a time of 1:10.77 and the 200 with a time of 2:32.98. Sarah Schmidt won the 100 back (1:06.31) and 200 IM (2:27.87), and Alina Zakharava picked up wins in the 500 freestyle (5:42.14) and 1,000 freestyle (11:22.53).

The teams will now compete at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte, N.C., on Feb. 15-18.
