Baylor Earns First National Title

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Baylor University Bears won their first-ever National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling National Championship on Saturday evening to wrap up the 2015 NCATA National Tournament at Joe Retton Arena.

The unbeaten Bears, under first-year head coach Felecia Mulkey, defeated her former team by a score of 286.690-282.870.

Baylor won five of the six events and 10 heats to earn the national title. The teams tied four of the heats and Oregon claimed the remaining five.

The Bears held nearly a three-point advantage in the team routine and won the acro event by 1.25 to earn the title. The other four events were decided by .15 or less.

Baylor earned its spot in the National Championship meet by pulling away in the tumbling event and holding a 2.99 advantage in the team routine to pick up the 287.915-280.430 victory in the first semifinal of the day against Azusa Pacific.

Oregon earned its spot in the finals by picking up a 283.495-281.325 victory in the second semifinal of the day against Hawaii Pacific. The Ducks won the close meet by having a two-point advantage in the final two events to edge the Sharks.
