INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Fairmont State football will make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs next Saturday when the fourth-seeded Falcons host the No. 5-seeded Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Â
The Falcons and Crimson Hawks will meet for the ninth-time in program history, but the first since 1997. This season's postseason appearance is also the first for the Falcons since the 1988 season, when FSU was a member of NAIA.
Â
Saturday's 4-vs.-5 matchup will be a collision of one-loss teams as the Falcons (10-1, 9-1 MEC) will host the 9-1 Crimson Hawks with the winner earning a trip to California University of Pennsylvania, the No. 1 overall seed in Super Region One, for a regional semifinal matchup on Nov. 26. The Vulcans went 10-0 this season, on their way to a PSAC Championship last weekend with a 49-7 win over Kutztown.
Â
The lone loss this season for both Fairmont State and Indiana (PA) came at the hands of the league champions from each team's league.
Â
On the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded and Northeast-10 Champion LIU-Post (11-0) will host seventh-seeded and CIAA Champion Winston-Salem State (9-2) in one matchup while the third-seeded and defending Super Region One Champion Shepherd Rams (10-0) host sixth-seeded Assumption (9-2) in the second matchup.
Â
Game time and ticket information for next Saturday's game will be announced early in the week.
