Falcons Earn Top Seed, Draw Rollins in National Quarterfinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Fairmont State earned the top overall seed in the 2017 NCAA Division II Elite Eight, when the NCAA selection committee reseeded the eight teams that won regional titles over the past three days.
 
The Falcons picked up a pair of double-digit wins in the regional quarterfinal and semifinal rounds prior to holding off Wheeling Jesuit 86-80 in Tuesday's regional final to punch its ticket to Sioux Falls.
 
The top-seeded Falcons will open the NCAA Elite Eight against eighth-seeded Rollins, who locked up the South regional from its No. 7 seed to earn a trip to Sioux Falls. The 4-5 matchup will feature Bellarmine out of the Midwest region and Colorado Mines from the South Central. Both teams won their regional tournaments as the No. 1 seeds and hosts.
 
The bottom half of the bracket will feature second-seeded Northwest Missouri State against seventh-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas, who topped Saint Rose in the East region final this afternoon after the game was delayed by snow in the state of New York. The final matchup pairs third-seeded Lincoln Memorial against sixth-seeded  Chico State.
 
Fairmont State and Rollins will be the first matchup of the national quarterfinal round, tipping at 12 p.m. central time (1 p.m. ET) in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
