Mountain Lions Rally Past FSU, 77-66

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - Concord rallied to defeat FSU on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena. Javaugh Manuel scored 25 points off the bench to lead the Mountain Lions.

The loss drops FSU to 8-17 overall and 6-15 in the WVIAC. Concord improves to 14-10 overall and 11-9 in the WVIAC.

Steve Custis led the Falcons with 19 points and Isaac Thornton chipped in 15 points and five rebounds. Melvin Rhodes and Jay Burke added 10 points each for FSU. Chris Thompson led the Falcons with seven rebounds.

Romel Kemp and Corey Neeley joined Manuel in double figures for the Mountain Lions with 18 points each. Gentry Shrewsbury and Neeley led Concord on the glass with six rebounds each.

Concord's bench contributed 49 of 77 points for the game. The Mountain Lions also held a 41-30 advantage on the glass. Concord shot 44 percent from the field, while FSU managed just 42 percent.

Fairmont State shot 64 percent from the field and led for over 19 minutes of the opening half. FSU led by as many as 12 points in the first half and took a 43-37 lead into the locker room. FSU scored 13 points off Concord's turnovers in the first half.

The second half would stay close, with Fairmont State holding a slim lead of eight points or less for the first 11:43 of the second half. The Falcons held a 58-50 lead at the 11:43 mark, before allowing the Mountain Lions to go on a 14-2 run and gain their first lead of the game, 64-60 with 6:31 to play. FSU would manage just three more field goals in the final six minutes of the game and Concord would extend their lead to as many as 13 points to pick up a 77-66 vicotry over FSU. FSU shot 29 percent in the second half, while Concord shot 45 percent.

The Falcons will return to action next Saturday, when they host WV Wesleyan for senior day, tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
