Fairmont State Bests A-B, 66-56

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Hailey Garrett led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to help lead Fairmont State to a 66-56 win over Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.

The win improved Fairmont State's record to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the WVIAC. A-B slipped to 5-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

In addition to Garrett, Fairmont State got 19 points from Kaitlin Snyder and 16 from Emily Lohr. The Falcons shot 49 percent from the field and limited the Battlers to just 36 percent shooting.

Alderson-Broaddus was led by Amanda Peoples who scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds. Ashley Price had six and Nautica Davis came off the bench to score six points and added six rebounds.

Lohr (14) and Snyder (13) paced Fairmont State in the first half accounting for 27 of the team's 40 points in the first 20 minutes. The Falcons were effective in transition to help the team shoot 57 percent in the first half. However, A-B countered with six three-pointers to help stay within striking distance. Peoples led A-B with nine points and 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

FSU shut down A-B's attack from the outside in the second half as the Battlers managed just one three the rest of the way. Garrett took over from there scoring 12 of her 20 points in the second half. The Falcons led by double digits for most of the way leading by as many as 17 before the final 10-point margin, 66-56.

The Falcons will be back in action on Monday as they travel to Buckhannon to take on WV Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
