Snyder Earns Academic All-America Second Team Honors

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State junior guard Kaitlin Snyder has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II second team basketball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Snyder, a first team Academic All-District 2 honoree, ranks fifth in the nation in scoring with 21.8 points per game while maintaining 3.71 grade-point average in nursing. The Charleston, W.Va., native, leads the team with 4.3 assists and also contributes 4.4 rebounds per game. She has been named WVIAC Player of the Week three times this season helping Fairmont State to a 17-8 record.

She is the first FSU women's basketball player to earn Academic All-America recognition since moving to NCAA Division II. She is the first Fairmont State player to earn Academic All-America honors since 1994-95.

Snyder is the third Fairmont State student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors this year. Football players Dewey McDonald and Frank Keenan were recognized in the fall for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011012 D-II Academic All-America teams program.
