Harvey Tabbed As Women's Golf Coach

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Lavana Harvey has been named women’s golf coach at Fairmont State University, as announced by Director of Athletics Tim McNeely this afternoon. Harvey was a standout on the University of Miami golf team from 1998-2002, serving as team captain during her junior and senior seasons.

“I would like to thank Tim McNeely and the selection committee for the opportunity to lead the Fairmont State women’s golf program,” Harvey said. “I believe my experiences during my extensive golf career have prepared me to teach, communicate and motivate young people to achieve their goals on the golf course as well as in the classroom.”

“I am eager to get the ball rolling and build a successful golf program at Fairmont State.”

As a full scholarship player at the University of Miami, Harvey was the lead golfer for the Hurricanes starting her freshman season. While at Miami, Harvey was selected as one of 50 students to be named a Living Scholar participant for the University of Miami athletic department. She was also a member of SAAC and actively served the community by assisting underprivileged children.

Prior to attending Miami, Harvey was a three-time Florida High School Athletic Association District Champion and was named Florida State Junior Girls Champion in 1997. She was also named the St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune High School Player of the Year for three-straight season from 1996-98 as a member of the golf team at Seminole High School.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lavana to Fairmont State as the women’s golf coach,” McNeely said. “Lavana’s success and experience at the high school and college level of women’s golf make her a great leader for our program.”

“I am confident that our women’s golf team will compete on a conference, regional and national level under Lavana’s leadership,” McNeely continued.

Harvey earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts and Criminology from the University of Miami in 2002.

Harvey is married to Fairmont State defensive coordinator Chris Harvey and the couple has two daughters, Brianna and Bailey. The Harvey’s reside in Fairmont.
