MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- Chowan won both games of a doubleheader against Fairmont State, defeating the Falcons 9-2 in game one and 14-4 in game two. The Hawks used a seven-run sixth inning to break open a 2-2 tie, and then used 11 hits to score 14 runs on the way to the victory in game two.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, FSU put up two runs to take a 2-1 lead. After Jeff Fansler walked, RJ Vukovich hit a double, followed by Preston Musgrave reaching first on an error. Andy Leach would then walk and Joseph Wilt singled to center to drive in FSU's second run. Chowan would even the score at 2-2 with a single run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Hawks broke the game open off of reliever Joe Elmerick in the sixth inning. Chown played seven runs on six hits, and Fairmont State committed three errors in the inning.

Tyler Kincaid got the start and pitched four solid innings for the Falcons giving up three hits and two runs. Elmerick took the loss. Joey Potesta and Garrett Fetty each helped Fairmont State with a pair of hits.

In game two, Chowan wasted little time getting out in front going ahead 4-0 after two innings. The Falcons got on the board in the top of the third on a two-run homer from Wilt. The Hawks, though, countered with three in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 7-2.

The score would remain that until FSU plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Potesta and Leach each were credited with RBI in the innings. Once again, a big inning from Chowan put the game out of reach as the Hawks scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to win by the 14-4 margin.

The Falcons had eight hits in game two and were led by Wilt's two RBI. Jeb Bennett took the loss going 3.1 innings giving up seven runs (six earned).
