PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State junior punter Ben Landis was named WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week and Ryland Newman was named Defensive Player of the Week for their stellar performances against Clarion.
Landis, a native of Johnstown, Pa., averaged 43.5 yards per punt on eight attempts. He had a long punt of 50 yards and placed five of his kicks inside the 20, including a pair inside the five-yard line.
Newman, a native of Ranson, W.Va., sparked a FSU rally as he returned a third quarter interception 54 yards for a touchdown. Newman also contributed a team-high 11 tackles, inlcuding one for a loss.
FSU will be back in action this weekend at home against Notre Dame College.
